ASCC Research Services is a world class biotechnology facility that operates as a division of the Australian Stem Cell Centre (ASCC).It has been established to provide a range of state of the art laboratory capabilities and services for the scientific advancement of stem cell research. It was initiated under the Commonwealth Government’s Major National Research Facilities Program and with financial support from the Victorian Government and Monash University. ASCC Research Services has developed a range of services that are provided to stem cell researchers. Each component of ASCC Research Services is provided to researchers through a single, coordinated ASCC facility and laboratories at the Monash Science Technology Research Innovation Precinct (STRIP) in Melbourne. Adjacent to the ASCC Research Services laboratory are research groups that conduct cutting-edge research in both embryonic and adult stem cell programs. The co-location of the research groups with the provision of infrastructure resources allows a seamless transition of new technologies from the researchers to ASCC Research Services and these groups are directly involved in the development of stem cell products and services, including training programs. History and OperationsASCC Research Services was originally established through a $5.5M grant from the Australian Government’s Department of Education, Science and Training (DEST) awarded to Monash University in 2001. This grant was supported by financial commitments from the Victorian Government and Monash University. The ASCC Research Services division has made significant investment in collaborative agreements in the development of biological products that support the research efforts of Australian stem cell scientists. Collaborative partnerships with the Centre for Green Chemistry (Monash University) and Stem Cell Sciences have produced proteins and human embryonic stem cell lines that are distributed throughout Australia and internationally. |
